The Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa is a popular option for overseas students who completed their studies in Australia and want to get significant job experience or stay in the country longer. This visa allows young graduates to reside and work in Australia for a limited time after finishing their education.
The visa has four streams:
⦁ Graduate Work stream
⦁ Post-Study Work stream
⦁ Second Post-Study Work stream
⦁ Replacement stream
The length of your stay and cost of the visa will depend on which stream you apply for.
Applications lodged from 03 September 2023 are eligible for 18 months stay.
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations Australia needs. It lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily.
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily.
From 1 July 2023, Post-Study Work stream applicants with a select degree may be eligible for an extended 2 years on their visa. See Addressing skills shortages in key industries and rebuilding the international education sector. For more information see the Eligibility tab for the relevant stream. This extension is only available to applicants eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) Post-Study Work stream , Second Post-Study Work stream and Replacement stream .
This visa is for holders of a Temporary Graduate visa (first Post-Study Work stream or Replacement stream) who graduated with a degree from an Australian institution located in a regional area. It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily.
Between 1 and 4 years depending on:
• the regional location of the educational institution that you graduated from that led to the grant of your first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream
• the regional area that you live in as the holder of your first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream, or your Temporary Graduate visa in the replacement stream
• applicants with a select degree may be eligible for an extended 2 years on their visa. See Eligibility
• If you already hold a Second Post-Study Work visa and are eligible for the additional 2 years with a select degree, lodge your application via ImmiAccount. Applicants with a select degree are only eligible to be granted the extended 2 years once and further applications for the extension will be made invalid.
This visa is for current and former Temporary Graduate visa holders who lost time on their original visa due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. It lets you live, work and study in Australia temporarily.
Usually between 18 months and 6 years.
You will receive the same grant period as your previous visa, with the exception of:
• Post Study Work applicants with a select degree may be eligible for an extended 2 years on their visa. See Eligibility
• If you already hold a replacement post-study work visa and are eligible for the additional 2 years with a select degree, lodge your application via ImmiAccount. Applicants with a select degree are only eligible to be granted the extended 2 years once and further applications for the extension will be made invalid.
• Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may stay for 5 years.

Applying for a post graduate temporary visa in Australia? You need to meet the following conditions:
⦁ You should be under 50 years of age
⦁ You are holding a current student visa (excluding the visa supported by the Defence or Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister)
⦁ You should have applied for and been granted your first student visa on or after 5 November 2011. You will not be eligible to apply for this visa prior this date.
⦁ The qualification you achieve should be an eligible degree (bachelor, masters, doctoral) to be able to apply for this graduate temporary work visa.
⦁ A standalone diploma or trade qualification does not make you eligible to apply for this visa.
⦁ You’ve held a student visa in the last 6 months before your application and you now have a Bridging Visa A or B, or substantive visa.
⦁ You may have recently acquired a degree in a CRICOS-registered course.
⦁ You must provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply.
⦁ You must provide evidence that you have applied for an AFP check.
⦁ You must provide evidence of the required level of English proficiency.
⦁ You must not have any debt with the Australian government.
⦁ You should not have a cancelled visa or previous application refused.
